Brown Soap Colour is a colorant used to give soap a brown appearance, ranging from light tan and chocolate brown to dark coffee brown. It is commonly used in herbal soaps, sandalwood soaps, coffee soaps, ayurvedic soaps, glycerin soaps, and laundry soaps.

Brown soap colour may be available as:

  • Pigment powders (most common)
  • Water-soluble dyes
  • Cosmetic-grade colorants for skin-care soaps
  • Natural brown colorants such as cocoa powder, coffee powder, or clay

How Brown Soap Colour is Used in Soap Making

1. Cold Process Soap

Procedure:

  1. Mix the brown color powder with a small amount of water, glycerin, or light oil.
  2. Stir until a smooth paste is formed.
  3. Add the mixture to the soap batter at light trace.
  4. Blend thoroughly for even color distribution.
  5. Pour into molds and allow curing.

Dosage:

  • 0.1%–1% of total soap weight.

Example:

  • For 1 kg soap batch, use 1–10 g brown soap colour.

2. Melt and Pour Soap

Procedure:

  1. Melt the soap base.
  2. Add brown color gradually while stirring.
  3. Mix until the desired shade is achieved.
  4. Pour into molds.

Dosage:

  • 1–5 g per kg of soap base.

3. Laundry Soap / Detergent Cake

Procedure:

  1. Prepare a slurry of brown color powder in a small amount of water.
  2. Add during the soap mixing process.
  3. Mix thoroughly until the color becomes uniform.
  4. Press into bars or cakes.

Dosage:

  • 0.2%–0.5% of total batch weight.
